Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country that has a powerful mix of Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, and Balkan influences that you feel everywhere – in the architecture, the food, and the rhythm of daily life. Bosnia completely caught me off guard, and Sarajevo is now one of my favorite cities.
Cities like Sarajevo and Mostar are endlessly captivating, with layers of history that are both beautiful and emotional. One minute you’re sipping Bosnian coffee in an old bazaar, and the next you’re standing on a bridge that has witnessed some of the most defining moments in European history.
Beyond the cities, Bosnia has emerald rivers, waterfalls, and mountain valleys that make road-tripping or hiking here very rewarding. And despite its beauty, Bosnia remains very budget friendly and less crowded than most European destinations, which adds to its charm. If you’re planning a trip through the Balkans, Bosnia deserves a solid spot on your itinerary.
