Thankfully I get to call home Maui. This morning, Joe and I woke up with intentions to go camping and just get out of the house for the night. It happened to be the weekend all of our usual camping spots were full. Determined to have a camping adventure we went home to do a little research and next thing you know we checked in at Camp Olowalu.

The grounds at Olowalu camp are well maintained, full of fruit and palm trees and directly on the beach. I’ve seen several weddings held down here, its a perfect area. There are 4 camping options to choose from, campsites, van camping, tentalows or cabins.

Camp Olowalu Tentalows

Inside the tentalow is 2 twin beds that can be pushed together , a soft mattress, a trunk to lock up valuables, solar powered lights, a personal sink and private outdoor shower. Not to mention each tentalow has a porch and chairs to relax at.
A private bathroom is assigned to 1 or 2 different tentalows. It’s not en-suite but it’s not much of a walk. It felt as if we were glamping. We LOVED our home for the night.

Overview of my Stay at Camp Olowalu
Pros: Very clean which is always a plus. This was also post COVID so CDC guidelines were followed and you felt clean. The grounds were well maintained and full of palm trees and tropical flora. I also love that they allow pets!
So if you hate to leave your furry friend at home this is your perfect solution. Of course this does come at an extra fee. This is a great budget friendly option for the expensive Hawaii.
Cons: This is the only area driving from the airport to West Maui that you have spotty cell service, if any at all.
