Looking for a delicious breakfast on Maui to start your day before you head out on an epic adventure? Perfect because I put together a list of the best breakfast Maui has to offer – and yes I’ve personally eaten at every Maui breakfast spot listed in this post!
What can I say, after 10 years of living on Maui, I’ve had ample time to taste test and breakfast is the most important meal of the day!
I have separated each of the Maui breakfast places by its location on Maui. This will make it easy to choose where to eat breakfast in Maui depending on the area that you are staying.

Areas of Maui
Maui is divided into 6 areas.
- West Maui (Olowalu, Lahaina, Ka’anapali, Napili, Kahana, Kapalua)
- South Maui (Ma’alaea, Kihei, Wailea, Makena)
- Upcountry Maui (Makawao, Pukalani, Kula)
- Central Maui (Kahului, Wailuku, Waiehu, Waihee, Waikapu)
- North Maui (Paia, Haiku)
- East Maui (Hana, Kipahulu)
Okay let’s get on with it. These restaurants serve the best breakfast on Maui.
Best Breakfast in West Maui

Down the Hatch
- Location: Lahaina
- Breakfast Hours: Daily 7:30am-10am
- Must try: Avocado Toast, Fried Rice, Chicken & Waffles
Down the Hatch has – dare I say it – the best Maui breakfast. Not only is this the one of the best breakfast places on Maui but it is also one of the best restaurants in Lahaina. Owned by a group of friends from Georgia, the breakfast menu is full of southern hospitality mixed with aloha.
Located in the heart of Lahaina across the street from the infamous banyan tree and walking distance from the Lahaina Harbor. Down the Hatch is a great spot to grab breakfast before setting sail on a Maui adventure or one of the many epic things to do on Front Street.
With $10 mimosa carafes and a delicious menu, it’s no wonder there’s always a line out the door. Must try items include the fried rice plate, chicken & waffles and southern style loco moco.
Papa’aina
- Location: Lahaina
- Breakfast Hours: Daily 6:30am-2pm
- Must try: Breakfast Ramen and French Toast
One of the newest Maui breakfast places is Papa’aina. Located in the heart of Lahaina at the bottom of Pioneer Inn next to the pier, if you only choose one spot to eat breakfast, make it this place.
The menu consists of classic breakfast dishes with a stylish Hawaiian flare. Not only are the dishes presently beautiful but they taste even better. I’ve tried most of the items of the menu and every one blew me away.
Must try items include the breakfast ramen and french toast. Brunch is available from 8 am to 2 pm and grab and go is available starting at 6:30 perfect for those early morning boat rides.
Mala Tavern
- Location: Lahaina
- Breakfast Hours: Daily 9am-2 pm
- Must try: Ahi Benedicts, Lobster Frittata & Ube Pancakes
Perched directly on the water is this waterfront Maui restaurant. A long time staple in Lahaina, Mala ocean tavern offers fresh sea food and classic breakfast items.
Listen to the gentle sounds of waves crashing as you enjoy delicious food during this Maui brunch spot. You may even get lucky and spot some sea turtles feeding of the reef.
This is one of the best restaurants on Maui that serves breakfast later in the day as it goes til 2 pm. Perfect for a morning after jet lag or if you’ve had one too many mai tais at a luau the night before.
Indoor and outdoor seating is available at this Maui breakfast place. Must try items include the the ahi benedicts and ube pancakes. Even better, give your tastes buds some variety by mixing and matching your benny’s.
West Side Bagel
- Location: Lahaina
- Breakfast Hours: Wednesday-Saturday 8am-1pm
- Must try: Avo Bagel Sandwich, BLT Bagel & the Cheesesteak Hoagie
West Side Bagel where East Coast meets aloha. Located in a small gateway across from Food land grocery store, West Side Bagel is a great place to grab a quick breakfast to go. This is perfect if you are staying somewhere on West Maui and have an early day excursion like driving the road to Hana or exploring Upcountry Maui.
These bagel sandwiches also make perfect snacks to bring with you on one of the many great hikes Maui has to offer.
Plantation House
- Location: Kapalua
- Breakfast Hours: Wednesday-Sunday 9am-2 pm
- Must try: Banana Bread, Benedicts
Perched atop a hill over looking the Kapalua golf course is the Plantation House. The restaurants is newly renovated and there isn’t a bad seat in the house as the restaurant offers sweeping ocean views.
The home fries are always the perfect crisp and you can mix and match your eggs benedicts.
Gazebo
- Location: Napili
- Breakfast Hours: Daily 7:30am-2pm
- Must try: Mac Nut Pancakes, any Omelet
Located North of Kaanapali in Napili is the Gazebo. This bustling spot is where you can enjoy American eats at the Napili Shores condo complex. A local and tourist favorite alike, there is always a line out the door.
At the Gazebo is where you can find the best pancakes on Maui. Plus this Maui breakfast spot is also BYOB.
Best Maui Breakfast Restaurants in South Maui

Kihei Caffe
- Location: Kihei
- Breakfast Hours: Monday-Sunday 6am-2pm
- Must try: Biscuits & Gravy, Pork Fried Rice w/ Eggs, & Loco Moco
Kihei Caffe is located right off South Kihei Road and across from Kalama Beach Park. The doors open at 6am for all the early morning adventures to be had in Kihei or if you need a quick cup of coffee before surfing, one of the best things to do in Maui on the water.
Don’t be surprised to see a line if you come around 8-10am as that’s the busiest time of the day. Must try items include a few local classics like the pork fried rice and loco moco.
A second Kihei Caffe recently opened in the Lahaina Gateway area.
808 Grindz Cafe
- Location: Kihei
- Breakfast Hours: Wednesday-Sunday 8am-2pm
- Must try: Pancakes and Spam Loco Moco
If you are looking for a breakfast spot on Maui that serves local grindz then you will love 808 Grindz Cafe. Located on Piikea Ave just off South Kihei Road, 808 Grindz Cafe offers local menu items at a reasonable price.
Some must try items include the spam loco moco, shredded pork moco and pancakes. There is also a location in Lahaina. This is a budget friendly activity on Maui.
Best Maui Breakfast Upcountry

Kula Bistro
- Location: Kula
- Breakfast Hours: Daily 7:30am – 10:30am
- Must try: Mahi Mahi Benedict
The Kula Bistro is a great place to grab breakfast after your early wake up call for sunrise atop Haleakala Crater. Located on the majestic slopes of Haleakala in beautiful Upcountry Maui, this restaurant offers fresh, flavorful cuisine in a casual family-style setting.
Open daily for breakfast the menu consists of a variety of benedicts, frittatas, french toast and pancakes along with a few local classics.
Grandma’s Coffee House
- Location: Kula
- Breakfast Hours: 7am-2pm
- Must try: Hand baked pastries
Another Maui breakfast place to enjoy after sunrise atop Haleakala is Grandmas Coffee House. This is the spot to enjoy home cooked food and delicious coffee. The coffee is grown on the slopes of Haleakala, at an elevation of 3,000 to 3,500 feet.
The cute and laid back coffee house serves a variety of breakfast items such as omelets, breakfast plates and Acai bowls, as well as tasty baked goods baked on location.
This is a great place to grab breakfast before you start going off-the-beaten path by driving the back road to Hana which starts in this area.
Best Breakfast in Central Maui

Vanta Coffee
- Location: Wailuku
- Breakfast Hours: Daily 6am-2pm
- Must try: Kimchi Fried Rice, Eggs Benedict w/ Spam
If you find yourself in Wailuku looking for breakfast in one of Maui’s most charming towns then opt for the Vanta Coffee. This small shop is the perfect breakfast spot in Wailuku. It’s small and cozy and has a local ambiance.
Must try items include the eggs benedict with spam and something a bit different like the kimchi rice.
Best Maui Breakfast Spots on the North Shore

Paia Bay Coffee Bar
- Location: Paia
- Breakfast Hours: Daily 7:30am-1pm
- Must try: Acai Bowl
Paia Bay Coffee Bar may have the best breakfast in Paia. Enjoy fresh baked croissants, acai bowls and Maui roasted coffee. Paia Bay is a perfect stop to fuel up before you start driving the road to Hana as it’s located in the heart of Paia town.
As one of the best places to eat in Paia, stop here for the fresh, local, organic ingredients and sustainable practices.
Baked on Maui
- Location: Haiku
- Breakfast Hours: All day on the weekends, 6:30am-12 weekdays
- Must try: Daddy-O’s Biscuits & Gravy
Baked on Maui is a great place to grab breakfast or lunch if you are exploring Haiku. They have a large selection of coffee drinks and lots of breakfast and lunch options. It’s an American fare with a Hawaiian twist.
Some must try items include the Mexicali, Daddy-O’s Biscuits & Gravy and the Caprese omelette. Opens at 6:30 am daily serving breakfast all day on the weekends and til noon on weekdays.
Best Maui Breakfast in Hana

Surfing Burro Food Truck
- Location: Hana
- Breakfast Hours: Daily 8am
- Must try: Black bean breakfast burrito
The Surfing Burro is a delicious food truck located in Hana town. They offer a variety of burritos, quesadillas and tacos. This is also a great place to grab coffee and a breakfast burrito in the morning if you’re already staying in Hana.
The burritos and sandwiches are wrapped togo which makes a convenient snack to have as you adventure through Hana and explore Waianapanapa State Park.
Tita’s Food Truck
- Location: Hana
- Breakfast Hours: 5:30am
- Must try: Any coffee at 530 am is wonderful
Another group of food trucks located on the road to Hana just past Hana town can be found past the gas station on the right. You can’t miss it there will be signs for Tita’s Cafe advertising coffee at 5:30 am. Tita’s Cafe is a cute spot to grab coffee if you’ve stayed the night in Hana. They offer drip and fancy coffees alike.
