  • 🏨 Bogota offers a range of accommodation options, from budget hostels and boutique hotels to luxury resorts and international chains. 
  • ⏳ During peak season and major holidays/events, book your accommodations in advance, places fill up quickly.
  • 💰 $$$ – Prices are market driven and vary drastically depending on what season you are traveling to Colombia. If you are traveling Colombia during the high seasons from December to March, expect the highest room rates.
  • 💸 Credit cards are accepted but smaller hotels in Bogota may only accept cash.
  • 🪭 It’s worth the few extra bucks to spring for a room with air conditioning. Colombia is a tropical, hot climate.

Best Area to Stay in Bogota

When deciding where to stay in Bogota, there are a few areas that I recommend to stay – Zona Rosa, Chapinero, Usaquen, Chico, Candelaria (Old Town) and Teusaquillo.

Zona Rosa also known as Zona T is one of the best areas to stay as a first time visitor to Bogota.  It’s home to some of Bogota’s best restaurants, trendiest nightclubs, and has loads of shopping opportunities.  Zona Rosa includes the Chapinero, Usaquen and Chico neighborhoods.

In this area you’ll find some of the best boutique and luxury hotels.  Nicer hotels = a safe area which is always important when picking a place to stay in a new city.  Zona Rosa is also in close proximity to many must see attractions.  

Chapinero also known as Zona G is known as Bogota’s gay neighborhood.  Numerous LGBTQ-friendly venues may be found all across the area including the largest LGBT club.

Usaquen is an upscale neighborhood in Bogota.  This area is close to Chico on the North End which is a significant neighborhood for commerce, finance and housing.  Don’t miss the Usaquen Sunday flea market if you happen to be here on a weekend.

Chico is one of the safest neighborhoods to stay in Bogota.  Chico is located in North Bogota next to Zona Rosa.  Think luxury and safety.  Chico is filled with shopping, art galleries, restaurants, parks and coffee shops.

La Candelaria is the historical center of Bogota or Centro Histórico.  This area is also referred to as Old Town.  This is the best area to stay In Bogota for easy access to sight seeing and history.

Bogota’s main square Plaza de Bolívar is the focal point of the area and surrounding by many historical buildings.  Stay here to be close to the best museums, churches and public squares in the city.

The final area to stay in Bogota is Teusaquillo.  Located west of Chapinero, Teusaquillo is a great area to stay in Bogota for families as it contains Bogota’s main campus and several family friendly activities including the Salitre Mágico and Simón Bolíva Metropolitano Park.

If you are looking for a cheap place to stay in Bogota, then opt for the Cranky Croc Backpackers Hostel.  Located in the centre of Bogota, this hostel is walking distance to most of Bogota’s main attractions.

For a hostel, rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable.  The deluxe pod beds are also some of the coolest layouts I’ve seen in a hostel.  The common area is great for socializing and meeting other like minded travelers.

If you prefer more privacy you can book a double bed ensuite bathroom or if you are traveling solo, you can opt for a bed in a mixed dorm for a cheaper price.

Masaya Hostel

  • Location: La Candelaria
  • Price: $11 & up
  • Highlights: Price and Cozy Bunks

The Masaya Hostel is an excellent choice for travelers looking for an affordable and comfortable place to stay in Bogota.  Located in the trendy La Candelaria neighborhood, this hostel offers well-maintained rooms and a convenient communal kitchen.

There are several different lounge/patio areas to hand out and socialize with like minded travelers or to get work done if you are a digital nomad like me.  Along with free Wi-Fi there’s even a pool table and ping pong table for your enjoyment.

The big, old, colonial house has been renovated with modern decor.  You can get a bed in a dorm room or for a few extra bucks, you can upgrade to a personal room for more privacy.  The bunks are cozy and private due to the layout and pull down blind.  Each bunk has lots of storage, a light and a USB charging point.

Breakfast is not included but can be bought at a very cheap price.  This is where to stay in Bogota for the price, unbeatable location, friendly staff and great amenities.

Cedron Hostel

Another great budget friendly place to stay in Bogota is the Cedron Hostel.  The hostel offers private and shared dorm rooms in a big colonial style house.  Located in the Candelaria neighborhood, the hostel was built 250 years ago.

The Cendron Hostel is safe and inviting with a lot of bathrooms and a rather big garden area which is perfect for relaxing.  There are even cats that live at the hostel who are super cuddly and are always asking for pets.

Staying here you can enjoy a variety of amenities such as a communal kitchen, lounge and terrace with a view of the city.  You can’t go wrong with the communal breakfast that is included in the price as well as the location and the vibe.

Granada Hostel

  • Location: La Candelaria
  • Price: $8 & up
  • Highlights: Great value for your money and Hammocks

Granada Hostel is another Bogota accommodation option that offers great value for your money.  Located in a quiet neighborhood close to the city center, the hostel offers comfortable beds in private or shared rooms.

There are plenty of amenities available when you stay here that will allow you to have an enjoyable stay.  Amenities include free Wi-Fi, hammocks, a communal kitchen and lounge area.  The social areas have a chilled and relaxed vibe making it easy to make friends with travelers during your stay.

Most people who travel to Bogota stay 2 nights in Bogota.  Ideally 3 full days allots enough time to experience all the things to do in Bogota in the city and also one day to take a day trip outside of the city.  So if you are asking yourself is 3 days enough for Bogota, generally speaking, the answer is yes.

Is Bogota worth visiting?  With its lively streets, vibrant nightlife and abundance of cultural activities, Bogota over the years has become a more popular tourist destination.  It’s worth a visit and chances are you are probably flying in or out of the country via the El Dorado International Airport in Bogota so carving out a few days to explore would be beneficial.
