The Phi Phi Islands offer some of the most stunningly beautiful scenery in the world. Tall limestone cliffs, white sand beaches and crystal clear waters.  Visitors flock to the islands to take part in activities like island hopping, snorkeling and to experience some nightlife Koh Phi Phi style.

Located off the coast of Krabi, the islands can be reached by ferry from Phuket which takes about 2 and a half hours.  To Krabi from Koh Phi Phi, it’s about an hour via speedboat.

These islands have been a hot spot for backpackers in Southeast Asia for many years.  The Phi Phi Islands became popular from the movie ‘The Beach‘ featuring Leonardo DiCaprio.  I have to admit the Phi Phi Islands are one of my favorite places in all of Asia!  I’ve experienced the islands on three separate occasions and most recently in 2023.

Best Area to Stay in Koh Phi Phi

When deciding where to stay in Koh Phi Phi, there are 4 areas that I recommend to stay – Ton Sai Village, Long Beach, Loh Dalum & Laem Thong.  These areas in Koh Phi Phi are all located on the main Koh Phi Phi Island.

One of the best things about Koh Phi Phi is that there are no cars on the island…well no cars in the main town.  This means that all the streets are walking streets.

Ton Sai Village is the best place to stay in Koh Phi Phi to be close to the pier and in the middle of the action.  If you are only visiting the Phi Phi Islands for a few short days, staying in Ton Sai Village will put you steps away from many delicious restaurants, shops, tours and the ferry station.

Long Beach is where to stay in Koh Phi Phi if you are traveling here with your family.  Long Beach is located on Koh Phi Phi’s southwestern shores.  This area in Koh Phi Phi is quiet at night but is still a 5 minute boat ride away after having dinner in town or watching some fire knife throwing.

Loh Dalum can be found the opposite side of Ton Sai Village.  It’s about a 10 minute walk through town.  Here you’ll be surrounded by tall limestone cliffs  and be close to some of Koh Phi Phi’s best beaches.  When it’s low tide you can walk a half mile out before you even reach water that’s ankle deep.  Staying here puts you in close proximity to nightlife, restaurants and activities.

Lastly, Laem Thong is the most remote area to stay in Koh Phi Phi.  Meaning you have to take a boat to get here.  This is a great place to stay for couples looking for romance and don’t want to party every night.
